The 737 MAX's basic airframe design dates all the way back to 1967!

Boeing's 737 is the longest-running commercial jet in history. The MAX's larger CFM LEAP engines had to be repositioned forward and higher on the wing because the original 1960s-era landing gear is too short to fit them underneath.

The 737 MAX grounding was the longest in U.S. aviation history!

After two fatal crashes killed 346 people in 2018–19, the FAA grounded the 737 MAX for 20 months — far exceeding the DC-10's 37-day grounding after the 1979 American Airlines Flight 191 crash.
