"Equal Justice Under Law" isn't in the U.S. Constitution!
The phrase carved on the Supreme Court's facade was chosen by architect Cass Gilbert Jr. in 1935. It echoes an 1893 legal brief but appears nowhere in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, or Declaration of Independence.
